A few days back it was announced that Freeway is back in business. While retaining the power, ease of use, and UI, the word is that it is being rewritten with modern underpinnings and they will be overhauling the responsive features. At present, they are getting their ducks in a row and will not be fired up for internal tech support for a few months, although the FreewayTalk forum has remained available and very active. Third-party plug-in vendors have seen a drop in sales but are still doing business.
While there are other WYSIWYG web design apps out there, FW offers what I have found to be the ideal balance between power and ease of use. It appears that FW users have been hard-pressed to jump ship. What I have seen within the FW community is that around 90% have been checking out other apps, perhaps 5% have switched, and 95% have continued to use FW while waiting for something to appear that would be equal or better. Chances are that it may take six months for the new version to hit the market.
It remains to be seen what improvements will appear FW8 and what the road map will be for 8.5 and later.
